Be Honest. If you're a drunk, a druggie, say so. I will find out sooner or later. If you're a cheater or a liar, don't string me along only to break my heart.

Communicate! This is something that lacks in many, many relationships. We all seem to "assume", and it only leads to trouble. You don't know what I'm thinking because you didn't ask. Please don't tell me how I feel. If I'm having a bad day, most times it has nothing to do with you. Let me talk about my feelings without being judged, criticized, or frowned upon. No one is perfect, and that's why they put erasers on pencils.

Basic fundamentals are important. Going in the same direction is, too. If we plan on a future, don't change it all of the sudden by saying you want to live in a commune for a while, and be upset that I don't when it wasn't part of the plan.

Never, ever cheat. That also means breaking up to go and f*ck someone else, only coming back to say it was a "mistake", you never meant to do it, and it wasn't cheating as we were "broken up".I see it happen all the time. Run.

Accept my friends, my family. I have known them way longer than you, and they have been with me through most of the troubles/good times in my life. Sometimes personalities clash, however, to make smug remarks or criticize them is something that is a RED FLAG.

Don't snoop through my stuff. My personal items, e-mail, mail, etc. If I want to share something with you, I will. Maybe I don't think I know you well enough to "share" certain things with you.

Be patient. This means not moving in together after 2 days, 2 weeks, 2 months. I, along with many others, have rushed into relationships much too fast to realize you just don't mesh. Get to know one another for months before you make that decision. Don't even think about it! It's very hard when hot passion is in the forefront, but it overshadows many things.

Understanding and compassion go a long way. We all say we do understand, but we are used to our own behaviors, that I doubt we really do understand others and accept certain things about them. A hard one.

Don't take my love for granted. In turn, let me know you love me. Simple things such a note, a hug, a kiss, "I love you" go a long way. Just because we are over the honeymoon phase, don't assume that these things aren't important. Compliments go a long way.

Relationships take work. A good one will last, because you work at it. It takes TWO to do so, just as much as it takes both to destroy it. Accepts ones shortcomings. Either deal with it, and move. Don't ever make it an issue.

If we have an argument, let's talk. Ignoring me and/or the situation for hours, days, weeks does not make it better.

If we do break up, walk away as this was an experience, not a mistake. Life is about learning about yourself. Get to know yourself better, accept certain shortcomings, and embrace the positive.

I may seem bitter at this point, but I had a lot of experiences where I need to learn more about myself, love myself, and work on myself. I am told that I will never find someone who is honest, doesn't cheat, accepts and understands me. I don't think I expect too much, but if I have to wait forever, I will. I only expect what I give.
Next time, I WILL get it right.
